Roofing in Lloyd

Lloyd at a glance

Lloyd is a small community in western Jefferson County, bordered by Leon County on its west side, with 187 people at the 2020 census. Interstate 10 forms its northern edge at Exit 217, about 17 miles east of Tallahassee.

What that means for your roof

Homes here are rural and spread out, often with metal roofs on the house and outbuildings. Metal handles wind well, but fasteners and sealant need checking as they age; see metal roofs.

Wide open lots

Open fields around many homes leave roofs exposed to the full force of storm winds. Ridge caps, edges and gutters are the first parts to check after a strong storm. Barns and sheds with older metal roofs are worth a look too, since loose panels can tear free and hit the house in a storm.

On the interstate

Being right at an I-10 exit makes Lloyd easy for crews from Tallahassee to reach, which helps after storms when roofers are busy. Even so, a small rural community can be lower on the list than neighbourhoods with many damaged homes, so keeping a tarp, photos and the roof's details handy, and checking a roofer's license before signing, are worth doing; see hiring a licensed roofer.
